Last Sunday, at the Liberty Park Drum Circle, I passed out a couple
of dozen plastic cups for cleaning up cigarette butts. Everyone was
very cooperative. They want to show the City Council that they
really mean it when they say "no butt left behind." Finally, the
area was so clean I could not find any more butts to pick up. I told
a couple of policemen that we want to cooperate. The anti-smoking
law provides an exception for bona fide religious usage. Virtually
everyone at the Drum Circle agrees that the Drum Circle is a
spiritual experience. Those who smoke claim that smoking adds to the
spiritual power of the Circle. I believe it is appropriate for the
City Council to declare the Drum Circle a bona fide religion and
tolerate tobacco smoking at or within a hundred yards of the Circle.
We are doing everything we can to peacefully cooperate.
Please respect our pursuit of spiritual happiness in the spirit of
the Founders.
Thank You.
